TVR
S Series
We love the S series, it was the car that took TVR into its golden period and whilst some might say that later cars handled better, we know that with a better damper/spring balance coupled with decent geometry, this is one nimble car that might not have heaps of power but the TVR grin is just as evident with S owners.
Chimaera
The Chimmy was the car that turned TVR’s fortunes round and the standard suspension kit wasn’t bad at all but things move on and plenty of these cars are still running on OEM with tired shocks and saggy springs, not the best move with all that grunt on such a light car. We believe that a slightly stiffer spring rate with good control, particularly on rear rebound gives a much more manageable car and with new thinking on geometry set-up, this car can be set up for anything from long distance touring to full blown track car.
Griffith
The Griff boys probably spend more money on modifications than any other TVR and we have driven some monsters, it’s amazing that some still run on original suspension kits and boy are they an interesting drive. We believe that full consideration needs to be given to usage before choosing a kit for some of these high power cars and we now have loads of choice from Gaz through to Intrax with choices in between, talk to us about a kit specific to your needs.
Cerbera
Along with the Tuscan, the Cerbera is the car that gives us the biggest frights on the occasions that we initially road test them, when we have them on the trailer you can often see them doing the nodding dog every time we apply the brakes on the tow van, imagine what happens when you are actually driving the car, frightening.
So much power and so little control is very often the case, our advice is to buy the best kit you can afford and regularly get the geometry checked because they can bite you.
Tuscan
We don’t know why but TVR got this car so very wrong, from early ones through to Tuscan 2 models we have never been impressed with the handling on this car and every kit we offer cannot fail to improve these cars beyond belief. For some reason we get more reports of tram-lining on Tuscans than any other cars so geometry is also very important. Once sorted, they are a magic car to drive.
Tamora/T350
Same chassis, so we have grouped these very underrated cars together and we love them, the OEM is not bad but we have noted front shocks blowing on fairly low mileage cars and this comes down to soft springs and fairly hard valving so the shocks are overworking in our opinion. The answer is to go up on spring rates which limits body roll and then valve the shocks specifically front and rear. The end result is a more compliant ride that you can stiffen up for track days, should you wish, or have a very nice tourer.
Sagaris
This is the car that TVR finally got around to matching dampers and springs on a set-up that actually works very well on track but some say that the ride is a bit harsh on B roads and that’s the problem with fixed damping.
We would advocate a slightly softer spring with adjustable dampers so that you could run the dampers at a lower rate for cruising or touring and turn them up for track days.
